Our STAR WARS Costumes Page

A long time ago . . .

All right, it was really only a few years ago when we did our Star Wars costumes. It was a lot of work, as I hope to show here, but it was also a lot of fun. Here are the results of our efforts with some notes. The above shot was modified in that I took the existing background of the picture out altogether, the pose was from a preproduction Star Wars poster I had seen. I always liked the way this looked but never had the opportunity to put it together like I have here, until now.

"Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi You're my only hope . . ."

Here we are, all together, at the Maryland convention.
That's yours truly on the far right as Obi-Wan.

The C3-P0 body was made out of packing foam, believe it or not. It was created by the very talented Rob Hawkins, who is seen here as Luke. Our good friend Brian had the heat-stroke defying, honor of wearing it. Brian's performance on stage was nothing short inspired. Note the silver left leg and the dent in C3-P0's right breastplate. Rob's attention to detail was simply unbelievable.

Here is our R2-D2 unit. Even we couldn't find anyone to put into it, but it looked great and got a lot of attention.
Also, let's face it, we had to have an R2 unit or the whole thing just wouldn't have worked. The R2 unit was the work of our good friend Petey. Thanks again Petey!

This was a shot from one of the movie openings. We dressed the kids up as Jawa's and had them grab R2 and run off with him in the lobby, while movie patrons waited on line. Note the detail on the bandoleers and belts. That was our friend Rob again.

I blacked out some of the backgrounds on these, but only to protect the innocent.

Here we are in the bar at the Maryland convention, reenacting the bar scene from the movie. Are we completely mad? Maybe, but we're having too much fun to care.

On the right is another altered image where I needed to wipe out the background.
However, if you look closely you can see some of the detail on Luke's Storm Trooper belt.

This is a great shot of our Han and Leia, Brian and Lea.

I scanned this image and blew it up a little to show the detail that went into Han's costume.

Now about that Chewbacca costume, on the left is a picture of the inside of the mold I made, after I sculpted the face out of clay. I then painted in a thick layer of latex, pulled it out, and when it was ready, glued the crepe hair onto that.
I also used makeup and paint to bring out the details.
On the right is the finished face mask.
